Dad's Geodesic Dome Hobby
Up goes the frame: Here is the dome only showing its internal support frame on the foundation. The dome shell is then built layer by layer.
On goes the shell: The first three rows are the easy ones. That big panel in the front on top of the garage door was quite heavy. Dad had to rig a pulley that lift that one into place. The rest of the panels were just carried and mounted into place.
In goes the key stone: Here is Dad and I getting the last panel into place. It was magnificent achievement for Dad. Another achievement on that day was this photograph taken by Mum. She had no fear in getting on the roof of our double story house in order to take the picture from a high vantage point!
Finished and looking good! The dome then had its surface rendered, windows and doors mounted, painted white and garden landscaped. It looked very smart and attractive! From 1995 to 1996 it served as the office for my growing little business called Messenger!
Welcome: Here is a shot from through the front roller door. The dome makes for a great storage area and holds the materials for the next set of domes! |
